Yellow Pages 2010 edition at my apartment block door.
Australians are becoming more aware of environmental issues and are trying to lessen this by switching to green energy produced by wind and water, recycling and more. But each year I also see that thousands tonnes of paper and trees are wasted on printing next edition of Yellow Pages. Last time I’ve used printed book was six years ago. Now I can looking up faster by using my computer or mobile phone.
And I am not alone. According to research 77.5% of Australians over the age of 14 use the Yellow Pages once a month or not at all. As you can see on the graph the trend is that even less people will use it in the future. “Latest Yellow Pages Print Directory Attitudes Survey where 58% of Australian’s, if given the option, would choose not to have the Yellow Pages Print Directory delivered to their home” Source
Now you can opt out of getting printed Yellow Pages and other directories from Sensis by calling a free phone number 1 800 008 292.
Also each household in Australia receives huge amounts of unsolicited printed advertisements. There is a law which makes sending e-mail spam illegal, but, surprisingly, sending the same kind of materials to your door in paper form seems to be a normal business practice.
Is there a way to out out of those printed advertisements also?

I’ve seen recently that some of the buses at Sydney CBD advertising that they run on “carbon neutral fuel”. Some people may think that these buses produce less pollution compared to other buses. It is not true. What actually happens is that some company buys carbon emission offsets from countries which are not using their allocated limit for gas emissions.

Sydney “eco-friendly” bus
But there is a more efficient and more eco-friendly solution: electric bus, also known as a trolleybus in some countries. If these kind of electric buses were introduced in Sydney, the air would be a bit cleaner, since some portion of electricity is produced by power of wind and water. It should also be not as expensive to build and maintain compared to tram, railway or metro.
